We continue to explore the fire in at Pertamina’s oil refinery in Balongan. The company estimated the storage tanks on fire were only holding around 23,000 KL of gasoline prior to the blaze.
In this case, external fire extinguishing with the use mobile monitors is useless and only leads to environmental pollution. The foam is destroyed in a powerful ascending flux of hot gas from fire inside the tank. Our calculations and living tests on the tank with a diameter of 43 meters have shown that only the stream power of at least 400 liters per second is able to preserve the foam in the harsh conditions of massive combustion.
